Marnie Breecker

Marnie Breecker is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) and Certified Clinical Partners Specialist (CCPS). Marnie earned her BS in speech communication from Syracuse University in New York and her Masters degree in clinical psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles. She began her therapy career as a trainee at Del Amo Hospital in Torrance working with children, adolescents and adults in the treatment of acute mental illness. Marnie’s foray into the sex addiction field began in 2006 when she joined the national treatment center (NTC) and sexual recovery program (SRP) at Del Amo Hospital, working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and adults struggling with sex addiction.

From March, 2008 – September, 2009, Marnie worked at the Sexual Recovery Institute (SRI) in Los Angeles, where she provided psychotherapy to sex addicts and their partners, facilitated a weekly spouse/partner support group and psycho-educational program and men’s sex addiction group. She also worked with the spouses/partners of sex addicts in the pre and post disclosure process during intensive outpatient programs.

Marnie joined The Institute for Sexual Health (ISH) in Beverly Hills in July of 2009 as the Founder and Director of the Cancer, Sexuality and Intimacy (CSI) Program, a comprehensive program centered around the impact of cancer on female sexuality. Additionally, she served as the Director of the Partners Program where she was responsible for program development, training and intake/assessment.

Marnie completed her sex addiction training under Dr. Patrick Carnes (author, Out of the Shadows, Facing the Shadows, Don’t Call it Love, The Betrayal Bond & Contrary to Love) and Dr. Ken Adams (author, When He’s Married to Mom & Silently Seduced) and has been a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) since 2010. In 2013 she became certified as a Clinical Partners Specialist through the Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS). She has completed extensive training in IMAGO Therapy at the Pasadena Institute for relationships, EMDR training under Dr. Andrew Leeds of Sonoma Psychotherapy Training Institute and Post Induction Therapy, Inner Child Training and Feeling Reduction Training with Pia Mellody (author, Facing Codependency, Facing Love Addiction and The Intimacy Factor).

Professional affiliations include the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH), California Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT), the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP) and the Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS). Marnie served on the board of APSATS from its inception in 2012 until June of 2014. During that time she assisted in curriculum development and served as a trainer and supervisor to therapists and life coaches seeking certification.

Marnie’s greatest passion is educating others on the complexity of sex addiction and its traumatic impact on partners and family systems. Most recently, she has been a guest speaker for UCLA’s graduate program in Social Work.
